Liverpool might have bounced back from behind against Burnley but it has not stopped their fans from savaging the first half performances of some of their star men, most notably Joel Matip. Yes, goalkeeper Alisson was perhaps partly at fault for the Clarets’ opener – which could have been called as a foul – but it was his 27-year-old centre back who put the ball out for the corner in the first place, when he really did not need to take such drastic action. Usually so calm and composed at the back, he did not look up to speed in the opening 45 minutes and the Anfield faithful are absolutely right to jump on his back for what they deem to be a first half display lacking in quality. Having allowed Manchester City to slide back into the lead for the Premier League title, everyone has to be on top form in every game and the defender simply was not. You could not have imagined it earlier this season but perhaps they are missing Dejan Lovren at the back.
