COMMENTARY
Back in England after a hugely impressive win against Bayern Munich in midweek, Sunday saw Liverpool handed what many would see as the perfect opportunity to put the pressure on Manchester City at the top of the table with a clash against struggling Fulham. The 3-1 victory in Germany will have taken its toll on Jurgen Klopp’s squad and so it might come as a surprise that the man in the dugout only chose to make two changes – Fabinho and Adam Lallana coming in for Jordan Henderson and James Milner as confirmed on the club’s Twitter account. However, the manager’s decision to leave Xherdan Shaqiri on the bench once again has left the Anfield faithful baffled on Twitter and understandably so. Surely this was the perfect game to give one his big names – such as Mo Salah, Sadio Mane or even Roberton Firmino – a rest and give a man who has struggled for game time of late the chance to shine. The Swiss star has more than enough in his locker to put Fulham to the sword and so he will no doubt be stewing on the bench. It throws up all sorts of questions as to what is happening behind closed doors to see him left out so much and only Klopp knows the answers.
