Strachan issues message to Leeds fans as he hints at PL shake up

|

Gordon Strachan has told Leeds United fans not to panic as he makes an exciting prediction over the impact they will have if they get to the Premier League this season.

The Whites have been involved in a roller-coaster of a campaign which sees them fighting Norwich City and Sheffield United for one of the top two spots in the Championship in the final weeks of the season.

Issuing a two word statement to the supporters at Elland Road, Strachan insists having Leeds back in the top flight would be different to other teams which have been promoted in recent years.

He told Leeds Live: “They can add to the league, there’s not many teams that could add to the league. Teams go in, go out or there’s an indifference to them. If Leeds got into the Premier League there’s going to be a lot of games shown at Elland Road because the atmosphere is terrific, it fills the screen.

“You’re going to have a high-tempo game. There’s rivalries there when Leeds are back in the top league so it adds to the Premier League.

“What I would say to the Leeds fans is ‘don’t panic’ because it’s going to change every week. There’s no set way of getting up. You never plan when your big victories are coming or when the disappointing ones [come].”

Opinion

It should not just be Leeds fans excited about the prospect of their side returning to the elite of English football – every club in the Premier League should relish their comeback. Their fans are some of the most passionate among the Football League, taking huge numbers on away trips while selling out Elland Road on a regular basis and there are some fierce rivalries which will be reignited upon their return – not least with Manchester United. They have stolen the spotlight in the Championship – an impressive feat considering they sit third in the table – and all focus will be on them if they do manage to secure promotion. As Strachan says, Leeds’ place in the Premier League is going to bring energy and excitement both on and off the pitch – but first they have to secure their place in the top two. If not, the lottery of the play offs awaits.
