Tim Sherwood revealed that he would drop Everton goalkeeper Jordan Pickford if he was the manager as the 25-year-old makes too many mistakes.

The BT Sport pundit highlighted that he believes Toffees shot-stopper was at fault for Ayoze Perez being able to get Newcastle United back on level terms during his side’s 3-2 loss to the Magpies on Saturday.

Sherwood shared that he would take Pickford out of his team and that he noticed the shot-stopper was mocking Magpies fans during half-time after not being red carded for his first-half foul on Salomon Rondon.

“He makes some world class saves the kid but too many mistakes, the shot was down his throat and I know the ball was moving but he puts his hands in front of his face which is a natural reaction and he pushes it back, and he rolls it in, Ayoze Perez,” said Sherwood while on BT Sport Score, as seen in a clip uploaded to their Twitter account.

“I’d take him out, he takes too many risks, he makes too many ricks, he’s not an England goalkeeper.”

Sherwood then heaped praise on Newcastle’s ability to turn the game around and pointed out that he spotted Pickford having a pop at Magpies fans at half-time.

“Half-time, Pickford knew he got away with one and he was walking off the pitch, having a pop at the fans, he was laughing and joking as he had played a lot of games down the road at Sunderland and now karma has come back to shoot him,” added the former Tottenham manager.

OPINION

Pickford was foolish to mock Newcastle fans regardless of his Sunderland connections and it’s clear there won’t be much  sympathy for him after making another mistake. The Toffees shot-stopper clearly was at fault for Perez’s goal as he made it easy for him to score, and it’s no surprise at this point. Pickford has proven this season that he is capable of making a blunder at the worst of times and costing Marco Silva’s side points. Last season the 25-year-old showed signs that he could make mistakes but more often than not he was a safe pair of hands. It’s unclear what has caused Pickford’s form to take a noticeable dip this season but Silva has to find away to get him back to his best, or find a suitable replacement for him. The 25-year-old has conceded 46 goals in 32 outings this season, and must be aware that he is better than his record suggests.
