Rising star Kyle John has agreed the terms of a professional contract with Everton, it has been confirmed.

The Merseyside giants’ academy account and official website revealed on Tuesday that the versatile 18-year-old, who can play at full-back or on the right wing, has signed a two-year deal.

It will keep John, who has been on Everton’s books since he was six, at Goodison Park until the summer of 2021.

OPINION

What brilliant news this is for John, and proof of the progress he has made for the club’s Under-18s and Under-23s this season. The youngster, who turned 18 last month, has made nine appearances for Everton’s age-group sides this campaign and the club have been impressed enough to reward him with his first pro deal. For John and others like him emerging from the productive Goodison academy, the failures of so many of Everton’s big-money signings in recent years means the potential for first-team opportunities. A repeat of huge spending in the summer is unlikely, and there is a sense the club will look to promote from within and put faith in those set to follow Tom Davies, Jonjo Kenny and company from the youth set-up into the senior side. John’s timing could prove to be excellent, and his versatility should also hold him in good stead, as the club are not yet sure which is his best position.
