Adrian Durham claimed Tottenham attacker Harry Kane was too big for the club and that he should be playing with better players.

The broadcaster also shared that he thought the 25-year-old forward returning to the team was what had caused Son Heung-Ming to suffer a dip in form.

Durham added that with Kane in the side as the club’s only superstar then Spurs were guilty of being less of a team when he featured.

“I think the Harry Kane factor is important here, it made other players drop off a little bit, you’re naive if you think it didn’t happen, I think it happened to Son as all of sudden he wasn’t the main man,” said Durham on talkSPORT (Tuesday March 5th, 18:06)

“Kane was the main man, as Kane according to Poch was the one they couldn’t do without, he had to go straight back in the team, how does Son feel about that when he has basically guided them through those difficult time while Kane and others were injured?

“So that’s my little theory on Son, maybe even feels a little put out by it, maybe he dropped off a little bit down to him.

“Fundamentally if you think it through to its final conclusion, I think what that means is Harry Kane is too big for Tottenham, I think he is better than everyone else at the football club.

“He is the best player at the football club but he is too big for Tottenham as he should be going on and winning things, he should be playing with better players, they are less of a team with Kane in because he is the one superstar.”

OPINION

It’s hard not to think that Son’s dip in form is connected to Kane’s return. The South Korea international was in red-hot form and seemed to be bordering on unstoppable. However since Kane returned from injury against Burnley, Son has submitted displays that could see him dubbed the invisible man. While it may just be a coincidence that Son’s dip in form has coincided with Kane’s return, that just seems too convenient. Yet while Durham may have a point linking the two players, the rest of his verdict will have Spurs fans everywhere pulling out his hair. Kane is not bigger than Spurs despite him being a very talented player and Mauricio Pochettino’s side are less of a team when he features. While it’s true that the 25-year-old is a vocal point for his side given he has scored 22 goals this season, to suggest he is too big for Spurs is mind-boggling.
