Ayoze Perez has opened the door to leaving Newcastle United in the future, claiming that he would like to return to Spain and play in La Liga.

The 25-year-old has been in red-hot form for the Magpies in the last few weeks, scoring three goals and supplying one assist in his last four Premier League appearances.

However it does not seem as though Perez has intentions of sticking around at St James’ Park for the rest of his career, with the ex-Tenerife attacker admitted that he is unsure what the future holds.

“I am very grateful to Newcastle, but it is obvious that someday I would like to come back and play in La Liga,” he said as quoted by the Mirror.

“To this day, I do not know (what the future holds). I hope something very good. I believe that I have made progress these five years so that a good opportunity presents itself.”

OPINION

It’s rare to see players so honest about their futures nowadays, but surely Perez could have waited for a better time to talk about his future at St James’ Park. The Spanish attacker has been widely-criticised for most of the season for a series of poor displays, but only until recently he has started to consistently play well. Miguel Almiron’s influence in the Newcastle side has helped Perez raise his game, but for the majority of his time in the North-East, the 25-year-old has been a bit of a letdown. So for him to hit a purple patch of form and then talk up a return to Spain is a bit of a strange thing to do by the £45,000-a-week [Spotrac] player. It would be best if all of Newcastle player’s leave talk of their future until their safety in the Premier League is guaranteed. They are nearly there, but this kind of talk shouldn’t be happening in mid-March. Save it for the end of the season.
