Sky Sports pundit Stuart Pearce has said that Man City will be happy after drawing Tottenham in the quarter-finals of the Champions League.

The two English clubs meet in the quarter-finals after the draw was made on Friday morning and Pearce said Pep Guardiola would be the happier of the two managers.

“I think after the draw was made, City will turn around, away from home first, I think they’ll say ‘It could have been worse’,” Pearce said on Sky Sports News (Friday, 1pm).

“They’ll be quite happy with the two rounds they’ve got in front of them if they deliver.”

OPINION

Tottenham would definitely have preferred to avoid Man City, but they’d arguably prefer to play Pep Guardiola’s men than Barcelona or Juventus. Man City might be the favourites but the all-English nature of the tie is a leveller of sorts. And, to win the Champions League, you’re going to have to play some elite sides. It’s a mouth-watering tie to look forward to, and neutrals will be fascinated to see how it plays out – Tottenham could ruin Man City’s whole season if things go their way. They play Man City three times in 11 days, with a match in the Premier League following the two Champions League games. However, if Man City win all three games – something which isn’t beyond them – they’ll have taken a massive step towards the quadruple that is still on the cards at the Etihad. Elsewhere in the quarters, Man United take on Barcelona in the other standout tie, which means that an all-Manchester Champions League final is still a possibility.
