Charlies Nicholas has predicted that Tottenham will miss out on a Champions League spot this season, and fans will be fuming at his dismissive comments.

Spurs have picked up just one point from their past four Premier League matches, and Nicholas believes that this current run of form will be their undoing.

Speaking to Sky Sports, he said: “Arsenal have the best run-in so I am going to go with Arsenal in third. Tottenham are in free-fall at the moment and have to go to Liverpool and Man City.

“Manchester United suffered a first league defeat under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer but I expect them to be resilient and have enough in them to finish inside the top four.”

Mauricio Pochettino’s side aren’t in action this weekend due to Crystal Palace’s FA Cup commitments, and their next match is up against Liverpool, but the squad and their supporters will feel that they still have enough to turn their current issues around.

To be frank, they are too good not to, and for all they have faltered in recent weeks, to suggest that their current run will continue for much longer is almost disrespectful to Pochettino and his players.

The race for the top four is tight, and a whole lot tighter than Spurs will have been expecting it to be this time a couple of months ago, but for most of the season they have proven that they are the closest contenders to the Manchester City Liverpool duopoly, and to argue anything otherwise is misplaced.

Yes, they still have to go up against those two sides in the run in, but with a a renewed sense of purpose, and their long term injuries properly bedded back into the fold, Spurs will feel that their Champions League hopes are in their hands.
