Rangers striker Alfredo Morelos has seen his appeal against the yellow card handed to him in the club’s Scottish Cup defeat to Aberdeen turned down by officials.

The SFA confirmed that the Colombian’s booking, which was handed out after the referee found him guilty of simulation, would be upheld in a five word statement on their official website, which read: “Claim dismissed. Original sanction re-imposed.”

The booking means that Morelos will serve a one-game ban in the competition for accumulated yellow cards, which will likely come next season if he does remain at Ibrox.

Opinion

It was a really weird booking for Morelos to pick up in the first place and you can see why the Gers thought they might be able to get it rescinded. It seemed as though the Aberdeen defender had his arms wrapped around the Colombian hitman and that he was dragged to the floor, the referee obviously deciding there was nothing in it and booking him for what was judged to be a dive. It remains to be seen whether the striker has a chance to serve his ban at Ibrox or whether it will simply be some red tape that never gets triggered, with plenty of speculation over his future in Glasgow. It seems certain that clubs will be sniffing around for his signing after his impressive goal scoring exploits this season and after holding off for so long this could prove to be the transfer window which sees them finally give in to the financial pressure of his sale.
