Ally McCoist lost his mind over how good Daniel Candeias’ goal was in Rangers’ 1-1 draw against Hibernian at Easter Road on Friday night.

Steven Gerrard’s men dominated the first-half, and just before the break Candeias, 31, finally managed to stick the ball into the Hibs goal with a brilliant curling effort after a lighting-quick counter attack.

McCoist was blown away by Rangers’ counter-attack, claiming that goalkeeper Ofir Marciano had no chance to saving Candeias’ effort.

“Everything about Rangers’ attacking play is excellent,” said McCoist at half-time on BT Sport 2 on Friday night [08:38pm].

“Kamara breaks, his timing of the pass is good to Candeias, his delivery in is good, it comes back to him but what happens after that is just absolutely magical.

“He takes a wonderful touch, opens his body up and bends it into the top corner.

“Marciano has been excellent in the first-half for Hibs, but he had no chance with that.”

OPINION

It was a superb goal by Candieas, who had a very good first-half for Rangers. Unfortunately the Portuguese winger disappeared a bit in the second-half and you could argue that it was his fault that Florian Kamberi scored Hibernian’s equaliser. James Tavernier had been decked in attack and Candeias was tracking back to cover for the club captain. However as the play slowed down a bit, Candeias just stopped and left Kamberi unmarked on the back post before he scored. That should not take away from what was a stunning goal by the winger. Candeias has done well for Rangers since Pedro Caixinha signed him and that goal just shows the game-changing ability that he has. He is 31-years-old now though and he won’t be able to play as much as he is for Rangers forever. Steven Gerrard may well try and find an upgrade for him in the summer.
