Mikael Lustig has admitted that despite talks with Neil Lennon, he remains unsure about his future at Celtic.

The 32-year-old’s contract expires in the summer and Swedish news outlet Fotball Direkt reported in February that both Malmo and AIK have both tabled offers to take the defender back to Scandinavia.

And it seems as though Lustig could be on his way out of Celtic Park once this season ends judging by his latest comments.

“Neil and I talked together shortly after he returned,” Lustig told Celtic View, as quoted by the Daily Record.

“We discussed a little bit about my situation and about what might happen next year. We’re both in a situation where we don’t know what the future holds come the summer.

“I try not to think too much about the future but it’s always in your head, especially when you have a family.

“You naturally want to know what the future holds but in football that’s not always the case and I’m used to that.

“I’ve been here for a long time and I’ve loved every second of my time here.”

OPINION

Lustig has not been in amazing form for Celtic over the last year and a half, but the Sweden international will definitely be missed when he does go having served the club well since joining in 2012. Not many players last seven years at clubs anymore, and the Hoops have been lucky to have players as loyal as him as they have shattered records in Scotland. At the end of the day though, it is perhaps the best time for the 6ft 2 (transfermarkt) right-back to move on and returning to Sweden might be the best way for him to spend the rest of his career. AIK and Malmo both seem very keen on signing Lustig. Malmo are said to have tabled a more lucrative offer, but AIK are based in Stockholm and Lustig is said to prefer a move to the Swedish capital where he can play alongside his friend Sebastian Larsson.
