OPINION
Joel Matip is struggling against Everton. The Liverpool defender has looked shaky at the back and there has been some clear panic in him when the Toffees have got the ball in attack at Goodison Park. Matip, 27, has been criticised quite often since joining Liverpool from Schalke in 2016. Joe Gomez has been a cut above the Cameroon international when he has partnered Virgil van Dijk in Jurgen Klopp’s defence, but the Englishman is currently sidelined with injury and fans have had to endure the ex-Schalke centre-back instead. Many Liverpool supporters ripped into Matip for his first-half display against Everton and you can understand why based on his body language. However Everton are yet to really trouble him, despite his nervousness, so the Reds might be alright for the second-half with Matip playing. It’s worth mentioning that Liverpool have not lost a Premier League game with Matip on the pitch this campaign and their defensive record with him lately is good. Even though he isn’t amazing, he still does his job to some degree.
