Leeds United’s entire fanbase should have goosebumps over the idea that the club are so focused on winning promotion to the Premier League this season, that they are already lining up transfer targets.

Sky Sports reported on their live transfer blog on Sunday [02:42pm] that Leeds want to sign Liverpool striker Harry Wilson in the summer transfer window – if they win promotion this season.

It is an exciting piece of forward-planning by the Whites and it just shows that they are confident of returning to the top-flight after a 15-year absence.

Leeds are second in the table at the moment but could drop down to third if Sheffield United win against Sheffield Wednesday on Monday.

However the 4-0 hammering of promotion rivals West Brom on Friday provided a real boost to spirits at Elland Road, to the point where they are already drafting targets for the next transfer window.

If Leeds go up they are going to need to make a lot of changes to their squad.

While Marcelo Bielsa has transformed a lot of his players into some of the best in the Championship, they do have their limits, and those limits have been exposed during bad spells of form this term.

Sky Sports report that Wilson, 21, is being targetted and that Leeds view him as a striker, despite him playing as more of a winger or attacking midfielder while on loan at Derby.

The Wales international has been in terrific form at Pride Park this season, scoring 12 goals and supplying four assists in 33 total appearances.

He would be an upgrade on some of the attacking players that Leeds already have, and they definitely need a striker if they are going to get promoted to the Premier League with Kemar Roofe untested at that level and Patrick Bamford scoring just one in 27 top-tier outings.

It is clear that the loaned-out Liverpool player has the ability to play in the Premier League in the near future – and that seems like it could happen at Elland Road in 2019/20.
