OPINION
In the big games, you need your most senior players to step up, have a cool head and show their class. Liam Cooper really struggled to do that for Leeds United as his defensive mistake meant Sheffield United won 1-0 at Elland Road on Saturday. Cooper should have just leathered the ball into row Z, but instead he dallied and lost out to Billy Sharp, who went onto assist the winning goal to Chris Basham. Understandably, some Leeds fans on Twitter have been furious with their captain. It was not the only rush of blood to the head that Cooper had in the game. In the first-half his passing was poor and he put himself and his team-mates under unneeded pressure at times. Then there was that game-defining mistake in the second-half, that could prove pivotal in Leeds’ hopes of automatic promotion this term. Cooper will be disappointed with that and will want to make amends against Millwall after the international break.
