Leeds United are in hot pursuit of PSV attacking midfielder Justin Lonwijk, according to Tutto Mercato Web.

The Italian news outlet claims that the 19-year-old’s deal expires in the summer and PSV are eager to get the young attacker to agree a new contract.

However it is understood that Leeds boss Marcelo Bielsa is keen on signing Lonwijk while Frankfurt and Roma have started to make contact ahead of potentially signing the Netherlands Under-19 international in the summer.

Good move for Leeds?

Lonwijk seems like an exciting young prospect and one that Leeds should definitely look to make a move for as soon as they can.

PSV have so far failed to get the teenager to agree a new deal, and that means that the Yorkshire giants could be picking themselves up a promising player for next to nothing in the summer.

Lonwijk has made nine appearances and scored three goals for PSV’s Under-21s this season, playing in a number of positions.

He has featured as a defensive midfielder, and attacking midfielder and even as a centre-forward.

Victor Orta should definitely try and beat Frankfurt and Roma to signing him up.

It seems like a risk-free deal if it can be done.

Likely to happen?

It might depend on what division Leeds are in next season because any club that is in the Premier League is going to have a better chance of signing a player than a team in the Championship.

Roma are a massive club and would be very hard for Lonwijk to turn down if they make a proper offer to sign him.

Frankfurt are also a well-respected side in Germany, and they could qualify for European football this term.

Right now, it looks like Leeds are in a no-win situation, but winning promotion could really help them out.
