Aston Villa have confirmed that midfielder Henri Lansbury is in contention to make his first appearance for the club since January against Blackburn Rovers this weekend.

The 28-year-old has had a season plagued by injury problems, limiting him to just three appearances totalling 128 minutes across all competitions, with his last appearance the 3-0 defeat to Swansea City in the FA Cup at the start of 2019.

However, as revealed on the club’s official Twitter account, the former Nottingham Forest star joins Tammy Abraham and Axel Tuanzebe in returning from their respective setbacks and being ready to take on Rovers at Villa Park on Saturday.

Opinion

No one really knows what sort of impact Lansbury will be able to have on this side having appeared just three times for the club, two of those coming under current manager Dean Smith. His experience will count for a lot but with a side who have shown some impressive form of late, he could well find it difficult to force his way into the first team any time soon. With eight games left to play, he will be hoping to prove to Smith that he has a role to play in their push for play off glory and it could be that injury or suspension sees him handed his chance to shine. Of course, Lansbury’s return might be overshadowed by the fact that top scorer Tammy Abraham is ready to go after his own injury fears and you can be certain the striker will be looking forward to trying to fire his side to the success that they crave.
