Fulham midfielder Stefan Johansen wanted to join West Brom on a permanent basis in the January transfer window, according to the Express & Star.

Johansen, 28, joined the Baggies on loan from the Cottagers in the winter, and the newspaper claims that he is more than likely going to return to Craven Cottage at the end of the season when his temporary deal expires

It is understood that Fulham might want to keep hold of the Norway international if they are relegated from the Premier League.

OPINION

West Brom fans have not seen much of Johansen since they signed him. The Norwegian midfielder has only made three starts and one appearance off the bench. He looked impressive against Stoke, but was off the boil against Nottingham Forest and failed to impress many supporters in the 3-2 win at QPR. We haven’t seen him in big games against Sheffield United and Leeds, but he could be back in action soon, especially when Albion’s midfield has been so poor. West Brom would be wise to try and sign Johansen in the summer – if they miss out on promotion – simply based on the fact that he is proven in the Championship. It might be a cheap deal because the midfielder, according to statistics website Spotrac, only earns £10,000-a-week. It is good for the Baggies that Johansen wanted to leave Craven Cottage too. As it stands, Albion are very likely to be spending another season in the second-tier.
