There is no doubting that the midfield is one area of the pitch that Steven Gerrard does not need to worry about right now, with a whole host of talent at his disposal.

The arrival of Glen Kamara in a last minute transfer swoop in January meant that the Ibrox boss had yet another name to consider in the middle of the park, having already pounced on the loan signing of Steven Davis from Southampton.

With Scott Arfield, Lassana Coulibaly, Ross McCrorie and Ryan Jack all in contention in recent weeks, Graham Dorrans currently missing through injury, it could not been easy for Gerrard to pick his starting XI.

Now it seems as though he has another headache, with a last minute decision to be made on the availability of Ryan Jack ahead of Friday night’s clash with Hibernian.

As quoted on the club’s official Twitter account, Gerrard admitted that the Scottish international was suffering from an injury blow which could rule him out – bad news for both the player and the club.

With the game on Friday night rather than over the weekend, there is surely no way Jack can be fully fit in the matter of 24 hours and as such there must be a call on the way to McCrorie from his manager.

The giant 20-year-old, who verges on the brink of being 6ft 3in (source: Transfermarkt), had been a regular in the side earlier in the season before dropping out to play a fringe role – but another starting position is surely on the cards.

He has done little wrong this season and if Gerrard wants a player to do the dirty work in the same way Jack has, there are no other candidates at Ibrox who fit the bill as well as the youngster.
