Sky Sports pundit Dave Edwards has been drooling over Leeds United attacker Tyler Roberts as he played in Wales’ 1-0 win against Trinidad & Tobago on Wednesday night.

Roberts, 20, started the game out on the right-wing, but Ryan Giggs opted to move him into the middle in the second-half, where he had more impact on the game before being substituted off in the 71st minute.

Ex-Wolves and Wales midfielder Edwards has been impressed by Roberts ever since he trained with him for the first time back in 2016.

“He is a terrific footballer,” Edwards said during Sky Sports Main Event live coverage of the game on Tuesday night [08:01pm].

“I first remember training with Tyler Roberts when he came along with Ethan Ampadu to the preliminary camp before Euro 2016. He was obviously very young then and you could see the quality he had.

“I think he works really well in between the lines, like a No 10, so he can naturally play that wide position and he’ll make good runs inside all night. I think that’s what Ryan Giggs is looking for from him.”

OPINION

Roberts has improved by leaps and bounds since joining Leeds from West Brom in January 2018. He had hardly ever made an impact at the Baggies and was on loan at Walsall when the Whites started to become interested in him, but Victor Orta definitely played a blinder when he signed the 20-year-old, who is now a key part of Marcelo Bielsa’s squad. In the last few weeks, Roberts has really come of age and has started to put in some super performances for the Yorkshire giants. He was the man of the match in the 4-0 win against his former club West Brom and he has followed that up with more impressive displays against Bristol City and Reading. Roberts can become a mainstay of Wales’ starting line-up if he keeps on playing well at Elland Road. Playing alongside the likes of Gareth Bale and Aaron Ramsey is only going to help him improve too.
