Some of the senior West Brom senior stars are fearful that their automatic promotion hopes are dead in the water as the reaction to Darren Moore’s sacking is revealed, according to the Mirror.

The newspaper claim on their website that a number of the Baggies squad believed the club’s poor form at the Hawthorns had blown away any chance of finishing in the top two and understand the decision to axe the manager despite him being a popular figure behind the scenes.

It is stated that a number of names are in the frame to replace Moore with Slavisa Jokanovic their number one choice, although other candidates remain.

Opinion

Moore had managed to guide his side to fourth in the notoriously difficult Championship and so while some players might have been worried about not sealing a top two finish, you are unlikely to find many in the dressing room who would have sanctioned him being sacked. The squad are one of the strongest in the division and even if they do not go up automatically they should still be confident that they can come through the play offs, especially with the amount of experience running through the side. Moore will have left some big boots to fill and whoever does end up stepping in will be under immense pressure to live up to expectation. Simply put, anything less than promotion is now a failure and that is asking a lot of a manager who will not have much of a chance to learn about the squad before the season comes to an end.
