Jeff Stelling heaped praise on West Bromwich Albion midfielder Kyle Edwards after he scored his first league goal in the 1-0 win over Brentford on Saturday.

The Sky Sports presenter when commenting on the goals in the Championship took a moment to describe the 21-year-old’s goal and rave about how brilliant it was.

Stelling even cheekily added that due to how good his first league goal was, it’d be a while before he scores a better one.

“This is the first ever league goal for Kyle Edwards and it’ll be a while before he scores a better one, 51 minutes on the clock, slaloming run, brilliant finish, well done son,  absolutely fantastic,” said Stelling on Soccer Saturday (Sky Sports News, March 16th, 17:47).

OPINION

Edwards is a talented player and it’s no surprise that he scored a superb goal against Brentford. It may have been the 21-year-old’s first league goal but he had shown glimpses of his ability in his eight senior appearances ahead of the clash with the Bees.  Hopefully Edwards will be able to build on getting his first goal and continue to progress at the Hawthorns. The 21-year-old is a useful player for a manger to call upon in the second half of the season as just like many other young players, he is chomping at the bit and shows no fear during matches. West Brom are set to be under a lot of pressure once football resumes after the international break; as while they look comfortable in their play-offs spot, they need to keep racking up results to secure their top-six finish. Then there’s the fact that there currently isn’t a manager in the hot seat following Darren Moore’s exit so the players need to keep their form up and not get distracted by what is happening off the field.
