Don Hutchison urged Oliver Burke to stay at Celtic as long as he possibly could as that was the place where he could be driven to reach the next level in his career.

The BBC pundit shared that he thought Celtic was a great place for the winger to try and improve and shared that due to the crowd and potentially a manager like Neil Lennon then the player could be driven to the next level.

Hutchison added that as it stood Burke wouldn’t get into most Premier League teams so there was no need for him to leave the Hoops.

“There’s no need for Ollie Burke to move away from Celtic because at the presence time, the form he has been in, not amazing form but y’know, better form from where he was a year ago.. he probably wouldn’t get in most Premier League sides at the moment, not starting anyway,” said Hutchison on BBC Radio 5 Live (Tuesday March 19th, 19:45).

“So this is no disrespect to Celtic but it’s a great place for Ollie Burke to try and improve, play well, and have an atmosphere and a crowd that are going to drive him on and a manager in Neil Lennon, or whoever it may be in the summer, that will drive him on to the next level.

“If I was giving Ollie Burke advice, I’d say stay at Celtic as long as you can as that is the place for you to learn your trade and get yourself to a high level.”

OPINION

Burke is set to leave Celtic in the summer as he is only on loan until the end of the season from West Bromwich Albion. While the Championship club may be open to extending the attacker’s stay in Scotland, it might depend on what happens regarding the manager’s hot seat at Celtic. As it stands Lennon is only set to be in charge until the end of the season and the next manager may not be keen to have Burke at the club. The 21-year-old joined the Hoops on loan in January from the Baggies and it’s been a mixed bag for him so far. While Burke has racked up four goals, as well as three assists, in his 14 outings; he has submitted performances that are well below his ability. For example Burke’s displays against Valencia in the Europa League were very disappointing as he was completely ineffective and bordered on being the invisible man in both clashes.
