Former Leeds United star Tony Dorigo has shot down critics who have suggested the Whites are lacking the stamina in their Championship title hunt after their win against West Brom on Friday night.

Goals from Pablo Hernandez, Patrick Bamford and Ezgjan Alioski secured a victory which put Marcelo Bielsa’s men back at the top of the table until Norwich City’s win on Saturday while at the same time putting space between themselves and the Baggies.

Taking to Twitter after their win, Dorigo shot down any suggestion of weariness at Elland Road, saying: “Reflecting on last night, the performance from the team along with the support & atmosphere of the fans were Premier League quality. Brilliantly committed to a man. Who said we looked tired & running out of puff? Tired my a**! Whatever our boys are on, I want some!”

Opinion

It was one of the best performances that Elland Road has seen this season and Dorigo is absolutely right to call into question anyone doubting the abilities and stamina levels of the squad. Bielsa is known to work his side to the bone and there were understandably doubts over whether they could keep up their hunt at the top of the table but Friday’s performance has surely silenced many of those critics. Of course there is still plenty of time to go until the end of the season but if these are the levels that the fans at Elland Road can expect then their rivals should be fearing facing Bielsa and his men. Friday night sent out a huge message to the rest of the division – now Leeds have got to live up to expectations for the rest of the campaign to reach the promised land of the Premier League.
