Jeff Stelling appeared to be in awe of Aston Villa midfielder John McGinn after witnessing his goal in the 3-0 victory over Middlesbrough.

The Sky Sports presenter was recapping the Villans’ goals against Boro on  Saturday and took a moment to appreciate McGinn’s strike in particular.

Stelling proclaimed goodness me after pointing out that it was a good finish by the midfielder that saw the Villans go 2-0 up before the half-time whistle.

“Jack Grealish with the assist to McGinn who scores, it’s a good finish as well, goodness me,” said Stelling when recapping Villa’s goals on Sky Sports’ Soccer Saturday (March 16th, 17:48).

OPINION

McGinn is surely a contender for the Villans’ player of the season as he has wowed more often than not since arriving. The 24-year-old arrived from Hibernian in the summer and has made himself a key player at Villa Park. McGinn battles hard during matches to give his side the upper hand in the middle of the park and has a decent passing range that helps his side go on the attack. Also the 24-year-old is the type of player able to grab a game by the scruff of the neck, and that has seen the Villans  do well this season. For example the midfielder in the recent derby game with Birmingham City changed the game upon entering the field as he forced things to happen by running at goal. With Dean Smith’s side still having an outside chance of making the play-offs, fans will be hoping McGinn’s form continues. If the midfielder is able to keep excelling, then it could help make the difference when it comes to finishing in the top-six.
