Leicester City boss Brendan Rodgers will make a move for Aston Villa midfielder John McGinn after previously wanting to sign him for Celtic, according to the Daily Mirror.

The national newspaper claim that the Premier League manager targeted the 24-year-old central midfielder before the start of the current season when at Celtic but missed out when the Villans tabled a £3million offer for him.

The Daily Mirror report that Rodgers is planning a summer revamp of Leicester’s squad and will start to put his own mark on the team he inherited from the sacked Claude Puel in the next transfer window.

Good move for Aston Villa?

No.

McGinn has been one of the club’s best players this season after joining from Hibernian in the summer and it’s unthinkable that the Villans could even be about to consider an offer for him in the summer.

The 24-year-old has featured 30 times in the Championship this season and his ability to regularly win the midfield battle for the side is not one that can easily be replaced.

Also given his age, McGinn is only set to continue to get better and better in the foreseeable future, so to let him leave would be very disappointing for Aston Villa fans.

Likely to happen?

If Rodgers does want him at Leicester City, the Villans may face a battle to hold onto him given that the player will no doubt be tempted to join a Premier League side.

While Dean Smith’s team still have an outside chance of making the play-offs this season, you wouldn’t back them to be in England’s top-flight next season as it stands.

Also according to The Sun, Rodgers is expected to have a £200million transfer kitty in order to help welcome the players he needs at the Foxes, and that does mean it is a realistic possibility that Leicester could submit an offer for McGinn which is too good to turn down.
