Elland Road hero Paul Robinson has been left drooling over the qualities of Leeds United boss Marcelo Bielsa as he heralds the decision to take him to the club.

The Argentine manager was a surprise appointment for the Whites in the summer of 2018 with many deeming it a serious coup for the Championship side.

With Leeds having been front runners in the second tier for much of the season as they chase a return to the Premier League, Robinson has been raving over his attention to detail and the impact his management style has had on the players.

He told the Yorkshire Evening Post: “I think Bielsa has been absolutely brilliant. He was a very astute appointment by the owners of the club.

“You can see the type of person that he is and when you look at his work ethic, you can see that is rubbing off on the players. They’ve brought in a man whose attention to detail, as we’ve seen in recent weeks, is second to nobody.

“He doesn’t rest – he’s obsessed. He wants to give his players every single piece of information and put every piece of advice into his players that he possibly can do.”

Opinion

Robinson is preaching to the choir at Elland Road and there will not be a single Leeds fan out there who does not believe that Bielsa has been anything but a stunning success at the club. His ability to turn a side who finished in mid-table last season into a squad challenging for the title, with only a couple of new arrivals to call upon, demonstrates why he is so revered by fellow coaches all over the world, not least some of the biggest names in the business. Andrea Radrizzani pulled off an absolute blinder to get him on board and the only fear will be what happens if the Whites do stumble at the final hurdle in the hunt for promotion? Could they convince him to do one more stint in the Championship, throwing whatever money they have at sealing a place in the Premier League? That remains to be seen, but you can be sure all focus is on getting over the line this year rather than what might happen in the future.
