OPINION

Patrick Bamford accused the Sheffield United fans and players of celebrating “as if they already think they’re up” but Leeds fan weren’t impressed with the comments from their misfiring striker. The game was the very definition of a six-pointer with Sheffield United leapfrogging Leeds into second by a single point. It means that Leeds’ promotion is not in their own hands, despite being top of the table longer than any other side this season. The game was huge and you can hardly blame Sheffield United for celebrating. Leeds’ defender Pontus Jansson had already made his feelings clear, saying that it was the biggest game of his life before the clash and imploring Leeds fans to turn up an hour before kick-off to create an atmosphere at Elland Road. There’s no doubt that the Leeds players and fans would have celebrated in exactly the same way if they’d won the game – something they probably should have after dominating possession. Many Leeds fans pointed out that if Bamford had taken his chances, they might not have had to have watch the Sheffield celebrations after the final whistle. It’s a more than fair point.
