Many Leeds fans were asking where Liam Cooper was when the Scotland squad was announced. The centre-back has been in terrific form for Leeds this season and fans couldn’t believe he didn’t even make the squad. That went double when they watched Scotland take on Kazakhstan in their first Euro 2020 qualifier on Thursday afternoon. Scotland were absolutely hopeless – two goals down inside the first ten minutes and eventual 3-0 losers in a game when the final whistle couldn’t come quickly enough for the boys in blue. It was a shock that Scotland lost to a team 117th in the world but the scoreline was almost unthinkable. Leeds fans aren’t complaining – they’re very happy to see their players ignored by their countries so they can train and focus on the next Championship game instead. But plenty of them were incredulous that Alex McLeish didn’t think that Cooper would be an upgrade on the players that were out on the pitch this afternoon. Cooper himself must have been watching and wondering what he needs to do to win his first cap for his country.
