It is no secret that Celtic need to recruit in the summer – that is a given. Come next season, Rangers are going to be a genuine contender for the Scottish Premiership title, and that is something that they will need to prepare for.

Finding a centre-back will be a priority for whatever manager is in charge after the end of the season, as Filip Benkovic will be returning to Leicester, and Dedryck Boyata’s contract will expire. That leaves a gaping hole in the heart of the defence that will be need to be filled by someone with bagfuls of experience.

Well, the Hoops should look no further than Norwich City defender Timm Klose. The 30-year-old could be a free agent in the summer, and he would be more than capable of filling the void left by Benkovic and possibly Boyata.

He has 96 appearances in the Championship under his belt, not to mention 75 outings in the Bundesliga for the likes of Wolfsburg. Not only that, he has been a mainstay in the Canaries starting XI this season, racking 29 displays in all competitions.

The fact he will be available on a free transfer will be fantastic news for the likes of Peter Lawwell. In Klose, they would have a defender who will not be fazed by the challenge that lies ahead of him, nor will they have a young, inexperienced player who they would have to throw into the deep end.

Standing at a enormous 6ft 5in [Transfermarkt], it is clear that giant has the physical capabilities needed to thrive in the league, as well as the aerial threat needed at corners. In fact, he is everything the Hoops need in a centre-back, which is why Lawwell must pounce in the summer before any one else is alerted to his availability.

Lawwell could hit the jackpot if he managed to secure the services of Klose in the summer. He is their ideal signing, and is just the player to fill the gaps likely to be left behind by some of their key players.
