Leeds United must attempt to re-sign Oli McBurnie from Swansea in the summer transfer window.

McBurnie, 22, has been in sensational form at the Liberty Stadium this season, scoring 18 goals in 35 appearances across all competitions for the Swans.

He scored in three games in a row before an injury that ruled him out of the Welsh club’s last two Championship games, but he returns to action on Thursday when Scotland play against Kazakhstan in a Euro 2020 qualifier.

Ahead of the game, Leeds legend Gordon Strachan has been heaping praise on McBurnie for the way he is able to impact games.

“McBurnie’s played there [up front] and he’s a handful to anybody just now,” said Strachan, as shown by Sky Sports Scotland’s official Twitter account on Thursday afternoon.

No matter what division Leeds are in next season they are going to need to bolster their strike force.

Patrick Bamford has been very injury prone since joining the Whites and Kemar Roofe is yet to get a taste of Premier League football, if the Yorkshire giants are able to secure promotion this term.

McBurnie has not played much in the Premier League, but he has been playing consistently well over the last couple of seasons and it would be a huge mistake if Leeds did not try to re-sign their former youth player in the next transfer window.

If Leeds go up then they are going to need a powerhouse forward like the Scotland international, who can hold up the ball, bring his team-mates into play and also provide an attacking outlet when the side is having to defend.

Neither Bamford and Roofe are that type of player and McBurnie could be an invaluable player if the Whites need to try and avoid a relegation battle.

If Bielsa fails to win promotion this term then McBurnie’s proven goalscoring record in the Championship speaks for itself and he has to be snapped up.

McBurnie is not the only Swansea player that Leeds should go after, with Daniel James widely-reported to be a target of the Yorkshire club in the last transfer window until a deadline day deal fell through.

It would be a great piece of business by Victor Orta if he is able to buy McBurnie and James.
