Celtic could play a blinder if they re-enter negotiations to sign Scott McTominay on loan from Manchester United in the summer.

Sky Sports reported in January 2019 that the Hoops had been in talks with the Premier League giants about taking the Scotland international on a temporary deal for the rest of the season.

However since Ole Gunnar Solskjaer replaced Jose Mourinho at Old Trafford, McTominay has started to play more regularly due to other injuries in the side and since then, he has displayed a very impressive vein of form.

The 22-year-old’s form should be something that Celtic are looking at, and whoever is in charge in the summer needs to have a go at signing him for a second time.

McTominay would be a great fit for a Bhoys side that has been lacking a bit of steel in their midfield this term.

Scott Brown is not leaving Parkhead, but he is not getting any younger and a fresher alternative should be looked at.

Nir Bitton, Eboue Kouassi and Youssouf Mulumbu are three other defensive-minded midfielders that are currently on the books in the east end of Glasgow, but all three of them are either extremely injury-prone or nowhere near as good as McTominay.

Some Celtic fans might not be happy with the idea of signing anymore players on loan, but McTominay could be someone that the Hoops eventually sign permanently if they can snap him up on an extended temporary deal like they did with Patrick Roberts.

The 6ft 4 (transfermarkt) colossus could be a mainstay of the Celtic side for years if Peter Lawwell manages to oversee a deal for the midfielder in the summer transfer window.
