Celtic are in negotiations to sign Manchester United midfielder Scott McTominay on loan, according to Sky Sports.

The broadcaster claimed via their live transfer blog on Thursday [02:57pm] that McTominay, 22, has been made available for a loan move away from Old Trafford this month, but the Hoops may have to offload players if they are to finance a move for the Scotland international.

It is understood that McTominay could be part of three more arrivals at Celtic Park this month with American duo Manny Perez and Andrew Gutman expected to arrive at the Scottish Premiership leaders soon.

Good move for Celtic?

McTominay should be a good signing for the Bhoys, especially as Brendan Rodgers’ central midfielders have either struggled with injuries or failed to meet expectations this season.

Olivier Ntcham and Scott Brown are good examples. Both have been injured and neither have played at the level that everyone knows they can this season.

McTominay could be the breath of fresh air that Celtic need in their midfield.

He is a tall player, who is good on the ball and will have a good amount of experience having made 33 senior appearances for Man United in his career.

Likely to happen?

According to statistics website Spotrac, McTominay earns £25,000-a-week on his deal at Man United, so Rodgers is going to have to shift a few players on in order to free up the funds required to sign the five-times Scotland international.

If he can do that then signing the midfielder won’t be a problem.

However if he waits too long, other clubs could come in and push Celtic aside as they have the funds ready to go.
