Celtic have been handed a boost over keeping star defender Kieran Tierney in Glasgow this summer as Borussia Dortmund baulk at the Hoops’ nine figure demands for his sale, according to Kicker.

The German publication claim on their website that the Bundesliga outfit had identified the Scottish international as a potential signing to fill a void on the left hand side of their defence but it is stated that the £25.5million price tag (€30million) is too much for the European giants.

The eight-figure fee would be a record sale for Celtic, their current biggest departure the exit of Moussa Dembele to Olympique Lyonnais last summer.

Opinion

Everyone at Parkhead would be loathed to lose Tierney this summer but the fact of the matter is there is little more that the full back can do for the club after a potential three consecutive domestic trebles. He is without a doubt one of the biggest stars to come through at Celtic and his price tag should reflect that but he might need to do a little more on the European stage to warrant the money being asked for him at the moment. German sides have been poaching English talent away already and it seems as their interest is not limited to south of the border, so there could be a fair few enquiries about Tierney come the summer transfer window. It will be interesting to see if the Hoops stick to their asking price for the full back or whether they will be convinced to part ways if a hefty bid that just fails to meet their demands is tabled. One thing is for sure – the Bhoys should enjoy having him playing for them right now for it is not going to last for much longer, perhaps another season at the most.
