Kris Boyd has suggested that Alfredo Morelos will leave Rangers in the summer transfer window.

The 22-year-old has been in sensational form for Steven Gerrard’s side this season, scoring 29 goals in 44 appearances across all competitions.

Rangers announced in early March that Morelos had agreed to extend his contract until 2023, however Boyd still believes that the Colombia international will be on his way out of Ibrox in the summer.

“Despite recently signing a new deal, I don’t think there’s any doubt the 22-year-old will move on in the summer,” Boyd said on his column for the Scottish Sun.

“If that’s to happen then I would wager Gerrard would want it to happen sooner rather than later.

“I have no idea what kind of figure Rangers will eventually command for the international, but it’s clear any money they do bring in will have to go towards a suitable replacement.”

OPINION

It would not be a shock if Morelos left Rangers in the summer. Most fans are more than likely braced for the inevitable news. Morelos is young, powerful, scores goals for fun and is likely to have a big price-tag. Even though he has been brilliant for Rangers, the best thing that Gerrard could do is to cash in on him while his stock is at it’s highest. Let’s say Rangers pocket £20million from selling the ex-HJK Helsinki forward. Half of that could go towards finding a suitable replacement while the rest could go towards improving what has been a very shaky defence at times this season. Rangers also have a few players on loan that would need replacing and rather than signing more players on temporary deals, they could actually invest and buy some youngsters with the money received from Morelos. No one at Rangers will want Morelos to leave, but it really would make sense to cash in this summer.
