Nacho Monreal was the worst player on the pitch as Arsenal lost 3-1 against Rennes on Thursday, and it wasn’t just because he scored an own goal in the Europa League showdown. Monreal defended poorly, didn’t seem able to concentrate and was just a complete liability once the Gunners were reduced to 10 men in the first-half. Understandably, many Gunners fans have absolutely annihilated the 33-year-old on Twitter, especially after he completely switched off to allow Rennes to score a third goal towards the end of the game. Monreal’s work-rate was shocking and inexcusable and hopefully Unai Emery will have seen that and drop him straight away. If Rennes won that game 2-1, Arsenal would have still been confident of a second leg win and progressing. However that third goal, that was down to him, could cause a massive issue for the Gunners, who now need to score at least two goals at the Emirates.
