Arsenal are plotting a move to sign Burnley goalkeeper Nick Pope this summer, according to the Sun on Sunday.

The newspaper claim the London giants are keen to take advantage of the availability of the England international, 26, after he slumped to third in the keeper pecking order in Sean Dyche’s side.

The Sun on Sunday report Burnley value Pope at £10million and Arsenal have a number of fringe players they could offer as makeweights in the deal.

Good move for Arsenal?

Yes. Pope is a proven Premier League keeper good enough to be capped by England. He has had a miserable campaign in which he has made just three appearances for Burnley, mainly due to a shoulder injury which mean new number one Tom Heaton and on-loan Joe Hart are ahead of him in the highly competitive race for the number one shirt. The 6ft 3in keeper has showed since moving to the Premier League club from Charlton in the summer of 2016 that he has the potential to be an established player at the top level. Arsenal are looking for a new keeper as they prepare to bid farewell to the retiring Petr Cech, and Pope would be a shrewd acquisition.

Likely to happen?

It’s certainly possible. Pope is available at a price within reach for cash-strapped Arsenal and his fringe status at Burnley means he is likely to be eager to look for a new club where he has the possibility to be the number one.
