OPINION
Ryan Fredericks has had a tough start to life as a West Ham player after joining the London club from Fulham in the summer on a free transfer, and his time as a Hammer hardly got any better on Monday night. Manuel Pellegrini opted to start Fredericks at right-back over Pablo Zabaleta, and it was perhaps a mistake by the Chilean, as the ex-Cottager looked well out of depth at times when dealing with Liverpool’s pacey attackers in the 1-1 draw at the London Stadium. Pellegrini must have picked Fredericks because he had the pace to deal with the likes of Sadio Mane and Mohamaed Salah, but some West Ham fans were not happy with his display at all – with one even saying that the 26-year-old was a “liability” against the Premier League leaders. You can see their point. Fans are always a bit more harsh in their criticism than what is usually warranted, but Fredericks was below-pay against the Reds. Hopefully he will improve.
