Tottenham are “ready to invest” £21.7million to sign Sampdoria centre-back Joachim Andersen, according to Calcio Mercato.

The Italian news outlet claims that Sampdoria’s vice president Antonio Romei jetted into London to meet with Spurs about the 22-year-old, who is also attracting interest from Inter Milan.

It is understood that Spurs have tabled an offer for the Denmark Under-21 international and that means time is running out for Inter to sign him this summer.

Good move for Tottenham?

Mauricio Pochettino will more than likely need a new centre-back in the summer transfer window with Toby Alderweireld entering the final year of his contract and widespread reports that there is a £25million release clause in the Belgian’s deal.

Andersen is a good player but he is nowhere near the level of Alderweireld as of yet, and Spurs will need to be very patient with the young Dane if they do manage to sign him up in the next transfer window.

He has impressed for Sampdoria in Serie A, but moving to Tottenham will be a whole new level for the defender.

It could be a good deal, but Spurs may have to wait a little while before they can tap into Andersen’s true potential.

Likely to happen?

Daniel Levy will surely be interested in signing a solid young centre-back for just £21.7million, especially if he is signed for less money than what is received for Alderweireld.

Inter Milan’s interest does not seem to be too much of an issue for Spurs, but the summer transfer window is still several months away and a lot can change between then and now.

Spurs fans, more than anything, will be praying that Alderweireld signs a new deal and stays put so a replacement is not needed.
