Tottenham made a £27million approach for Aleksandar Mitrovic in the January transfer window, but it was rejected by Fulham, according to TeamTalk.

The news outlet claims that Spurs failed in their swoop to sign Mitrovic, 24, after offering the Cottagers what they paid for the striker when they signed him from Newcastle United last summer.

It is understood that Tottenham could move to sign the Serbia international again in the summer transfer window, if Fulham are relegated from the Premier League.

Good move for Tottenham?

Mauricio Pochettino does like big strong forwards and he could be losing Fernando Llorente in the summer when the Spaniard’s deal with the club expires.

Vincent Janssen is out of favour in North London and Harry Kane could be left as Spurs’ only natural centre-forward unless Pochettino signs a new back-up.

Mitrovic might be a decent back-up option.

The 6ft 2 (transfermarkt) powerhouse has scored 10 Premier League goals this season for relegation-threatened Fulham, which is a decent return for a team placed 19th in the table.

However if he costs almost £30million, Spurs might be better off looking elsewhere and going after someone a bit younger than the Serbian.

Likely to happen?

Fulham are definitely likely to go down and that could mean that Mitrovic will be come available.

The former Newcastle target man ticks a lot of boxes for Spurs so there is definitely a chance that something could happen.

However there is still a lot of time before the summer transfer window opens and a lot can change between now and then.
