Sky Sports pundit Phil Thompson has savaged Chelsea’s £51million signing Jorginho and said that Maurizio Sarri should not play him again this season.

Jorginho joined from Napoli in the summer in a deal worth a reported £110k-a-week in wages but has been criticised for passing sideways and Thompson believes he is killing Chelsea’s game.

Talking on Sky Sports News (Saturday, 1pm), Thompson said, “He’s [Sari] burying his head in the sand over Jorginho. I don’t care how much you paid for the guy, maybe he’s be better next year, when he can learn some things.

“All his balls are sideways. He slows it down, he stops it. I’d take him out completely and put Kante in, see if it makes a difference.

“I don’t care how much you paid, maybe you’ll be better off playing him next season. Sarri can’t see what’s in front of him.”

OPINION

Jorginho was supposed to be the player who was key to Sarri ball but at the moment he only seems to be slowing the team down. The wheels are coming off Chelsea’s bus and Jorginho seems to be the culprit. Doing the same thing over and over, and expecting different results, is said to be madness and Sarri will definitely have lost the plot if he doesn’t so something quick. Quite often managers feel like they have to play players who have cost them lost of money, but Thompson has the right idea. Many players take time to adapt to the Premier League and taking the pressure off Jorginho and letting him watch and observe for the rest of the season, makes a lot of sense to us. It’s a radical move but something major has to be done now if Chelsea harbour any real ambitions of making the top four. The 6-0 defeat to Man City should have been a big wake-up call for Sarri.
