BBC Sportscene pundit Tam McManus has said that the red awarded to Kilmarnock keeper Daniel Bachmann was warranted after he retweeted a video from a Rangers fan.

The video clearly shows Bachmann elbowing Glen Kamara and McManus said it was a “Great angle that vindicates the officials.”

McManus went on to say, “Can understand why he got a red. Certainly not ‘nothing’. You can’t do that I’m afraid. Even a Spanish/Dutch official gives that.”

McManus delivered his verdict on the video on Thursday morning.

OPINION

Kilmarnock manager Steve Clarke called goalkeeper Daniel Bachmann’s sending off “a joke”, but he might have to admit he was wrong after watching this video. The initial video from BBC Scotland behind the goal was far from clear and it appeared that Bachmann hadn’t done anything. However, this video clearly shows Bachmann elbowing the Rangers player and it looks like a clear cut red card. This incident shows two things. Firstly, that referees have an almost impossible job without the luxury of VAR. Even with the luxury of watching the incident from one camera angle, it was fr from clear what had happened. Secondly, Scottish referees are under a huge amount of pressure now with the spotlight on them after the SFA said it was considering bringing in foreign referees after a key meeting with Premiership clubs. That’s not going to make their jobs any easier, but credit where credit’s due – the referee got it spot on last night judging by this video.
