Lee McCulloch heaped praised on how Steven Gerrard had transformed several Rangers players at the club and highlighted the emergence of midfielder Andy Halliday in particular.

Th ex-Gers midfielder shared that he thought Gerrard had personally identified Halliday as a player who could offer a lot and had since helped him by making the most of him.

McCulloch suggested that Gerrard had made several players look like new signings at times, and claimed that the Gers boss was at Ibrox to improve players by getting them out of their comfort zone.

“And you can tell the same with Steven Gerrard. When he came in, fans, media, thought the players didn’t have the mentality to play for Rangers,” said McCulloch, as quoted by the Scottish Sun.

“But this season I think some of them have looked like new players at times.

“Look at the emergence of Andy Halliday, where he’s come from. Out on loan, but as soon as Steven came in he identified him as a player who could offer a lot.

“He’s played him in a number of positions while he’s also been captain of the club on a couple of occasions.

“Steven’s there to make players better and get players out of their comfort zone.”

OPINION

It’s hard to disagree with McCulloch’s opinion as Gerrard has certainly sprinkled a bit of magic over certain members of the Gers squad and they have had their best ever campaigns for the club as a result. Also the former Gers midfielder is 100% right to drool over the emergence of Halliday in particular as the 27-year-old has excelled this season. The defensive midfielder has been a regular fixture of Gerrard’s side this season and has generally impressed in the 26 outings he has made, and you would back him to continue impressing. Last season Halliday had a loan spell at FK Qabala, where he made seven appearances, so it has been quite a remarkable turnaround for his Rangers career. Given that the Gers are still pushing for silverware this season and Halliday’s importance to the team, hopefully his form continues throughout the season. If he is able to keep going then he could be player who could prove vital in the final run of games when it comes down to it.
