OPINION
Rangers might have endured a barren eight years without a major trophy to their name but the most difficult element of their lack of silverware will have been watching fierce rivals Celtic wipe the floor with the rest of Scotland.
Seven top flight titles in a row have been joined by not one but two domestic treble winning campaigns and they are on course to win everything available in domestic football once again, having already secured the League Cup title for another year.
Rangers meanwhile have been doing what they can to try and claw their way back to the level of the Hoops and while they might have beaten Brendan Rodgers and his men in December, they have struggled in both the cups and lag six points behind the Bhoys in the top tier.
Speaking of hopes at Ibrox, senior Gers ace Andy Halliday has said that this season would be a failure without some silverware to call their own come the end – and it is a verdict that will have many of the Parkhead faithful in stitches.
He told Rangers TV: “It’s not a success if you don’t win anything at the end of it. I think that’s the way me and a lot of the players will certainly feel.
“We want to have that winning mentality. We want to win football games and we want to win medals, it’s as simple as that. Obviously me and a few of the boys that have been here for a longer period of time know that certainly the Scottish Cup was one that got away from us.”
The Celtic fans will be laughing at the face Halliday believes they are good enough to compete with their side – the Hoops undoubtedly favourites for every trophy on offer in Scotland – and so far it has been the Bhoys leading the charge on every front.
The supporters at Celtic Park will be loving the thought of bringing some heartbreak the way of those at Ibrox – and will be chuckling away to themselves for days at Halliday thinking it would be a flop of a season without a trophy.
