Rangers will have to foot the bill for the 200 damaged seats in the away end at Pittodrie following their 4-2 win over Aberdeen a fortnight ago, according to BBC presenter Richard Gordon.

A number of seats were left in a bad way after the fiery midweek clash, and the Dons are planning on sending the cost of repairing them to the Gers.

Speaking on Sportsound, as quoted in the Scottish Sun, Gordon said: “I hadn’t realised it was an SPFL regulation [Rule H40] that the visiting club had to pay for damage.

“I know for instance the most recent Aberdeen-Rangers game, there was about 200 seats damaged and I know Aberdeen were sending Rangers the bill for that.

“But I didn’t realise it was actually set in stone that the visiting club had to pay for it.”

OPINION

It only seems fair that Rangers should foot the bill of it was their fans who caused the damage to the seats at Pittodrie – and it seems as if there’s little debate over the fact that it was. There have been a few incidents in recent weeks smattered across the Scottish Premiership that have been quite unsavoury, and ultimately, the league will be looking for ways to eradicate this kind of unwanted behaviour before it gathers too much pace. Banning fans is obviously one option, but that won’t always have an effect on the majority, and would do little to help Aberdeen solve their damage problems. Making Rangers foot the bill, however, will finance repairs and hopefully send a message to the unruly section of supporters that their behaviour will ultimately hit the thing they love most, the club, in the pocket. It may not be instant, but you would assume that after a couple of incidents like this, things might ease up a little.
