There is no doubting that Rangers midfielder Steven Davis is a talented player, but things do not seem to have run that smoothly for him since he arrived at Ibrox.

Out of the four appearances the senior player has made for the Gers since signing for the club, most of them have come from the bench, and even then he has failed to impress anyone.

He has not made the instant impact that boss Steven Gerrard was hoping he would make, and this must be a major cause for concern for Davis personally – in fact, he must be sweating about his first team future at the moment.

Players like Ryan Jack and Scott Arfield have performed admirably in the last couple of matches and it seems that the 34-year-old does not stand a chance of usurping them any time soon.

He is capable of a lot more than he is showing, but perhaps his lack of game time at Southampton recently is coming back to bite him.

Davis probably knew that he was not always guaranteed a regular spot in the starting XI, but the signs do not look good based on how he has performed when giving the chance.

Gerrard obviously thought that the veteran midfielder’s experience would prove him dividends at Rangers, but that does not seem to be the case in the slightest, and now his chances of playing have been thrown into serious doubt.

This is a pivotal stage of the season for Rangers as they are in with a shout of the title, and the manager will obviously want everybody at 100 percent going to the home stretch, but at the moment, Davis does not appear capable of that.

Either way, he will be sweating buckets after being overlooked recently.
