Sir Kenny Dalglish has weighed in on the incident involving Rangers striker Alfredo Morelos in Wednesday’s clash against Aberdeen.

The 22-year-old ace was sent off after a challenge on the Dons’ Scott McKenna, and he has been banned for three matches after having his appeal turned down.

Dalglish remarked that the attacker has “plenty of talent” and has urged him to show more maturity and self-control on the pitch instead of getting riled up and making himself a liability.

“Morelos scored two great goals at Pittodrie, but made the headlines for all the wrong reasons yet again. The referee was right to give the same punishment to both players, whether that was yellow, red or just a talking to,” he said in his Sunday Post column.

“Morelos has plenty of talent but he has to control his petulance. He can’t allow himself to become a complete liability. The Colombian needs to show more maturity and self-control.”

OPINION

Pundits aplenty have weighed in on this Rangers flashpoint, as Morelos is really a player who likes to get in the headlines – but for the wrong reasons, as Dalglish has pointed out. He is infamous for being rather hot-headed on the pitch, and while that has helped fuel his passion for scoring goals, it has also been something that has led to a lot of criticism. He has been sent off far too many times this season, and if he does not end up realising that he cannot react in the way that he does, then he is just going to let his team as well as boss Steven Gerrard down time and time again. Nobody would have thought that the Gers were in with a shout of the title in his first term in charge, but here we are – and it will be largely down to Morelos if Rangers fall at the last hurdle.
