Andy Walker has predicted that Celtic will win 2-1 against St Johnstone when the two sides play against each other in the Scottish Premiership at Ibrox on Sunday.

The Hoops are currently six points clear in the league after successive wins recently – they have 51 points – with rivals Rangers sitting in second with 45 points.

Sky Sports pundit Walker has backed Brendan Rodgers’ side to keep up their impressive streak at the top of the table, and believes that 27-year-old goalkeeper Scott Bain – who has made five appearances in the league so far – will be the key man for Celtic in this clash.

“Been given an extended run as undisputed No 1, can he make the same number of quality saves that Craig Gordon was renowned for?” Walker said in his Sky Sports predictions.

OPINION

Scott Bain has had a run of being first choice goalkeeper for Celtic recently in the place of Craig Gordon, and he has had a string of clean sheets to his name as a result, most recently the 2-0 win over St Johnstone. There is no reason for Rodgers to suddenly drop him for Gordon, as he has been rather excellent. Gordon must feel aggrieved over these circumstances, but the manager is only doing what is best for the team. However, Celtic are capable of winning by more than one goal like Walker has predicted. With the new players they have on their books, they have the ability to put quite a few past their Sunday opponents. Maintaining a gap between themselves and the Gers is absolutely paramount, as the last thing they would want to do is surrender their lead to their bitter rivals. It is impossible to see anything other than a Hoops win here – but who knows what could happen.
