It is fair to say that Tottenham will feel confident that they can call themselves the top dogs in north London – but to stay ahead of Arsenal they need to start improving their squad.

Two barren transfer windows has not done too much damage to Mauricio Pochettino and his men – the Lilywhites still chasing a top four finish as an outsider in the title race – but there is little doubting that frustrations will be growing among the fanbase.

It is not necessarily a lack of ambition – the north London side’s new stadium proving they are aiming for bigger and brighter things – but it is certainly not how the supporters want things to progress for the foreseeable future.

Some new signings are a must and if any new arrivals can leave the red half of north London frustrated then it would be an added bonus.

It is for this reason that Spurs have got to hijack Arsenal’s reported hunt for Celtic’s Kieran Tierney, The Sun reporting that the Scotland international is being lined up for a £25million move to the Emirates Stadium in the summer.

Tierney is someone on Tottenham’s radar – the Mirror claiming that they were keen last summer – and while he might not have been playing much of late, injuries curtailing his season, he is still one of the most exciting left backs in the country.

Arsenal snapping him up would only say that they are the more ambitious side and that north London could be red – Tottenham no doubt wanting to keep it Lilywhite.

Tierney’s capture can do just that and considering Danny Rose and Ben Davies have been hit and miss, his arrival would be a huge boost for Pochettino moving forward.
