Celtic boss Brendan Rodgers has provided an injury update on Hoops duo Dedryck Boyata and Olivier Ntcham ahead of Sunday’s clash against St Johnstone.

Both players are set to return to full training next week, with Boyata training with the reserves over the course of the weekend and returning to proper training a couple of days later.

Meanwhile, Rodgers said that they would assess the situation of Ntcham on Monday, who he hopes will be able to take part in training on Tuesday.

“The plan, all being well with the last couple of days of rehab, is for [Boyata] to train with the reserves this weekend. And then he will hopefully train with the first team next week,” he said, as quoted by the Daily Record.

“Olivier went to Clarefontaine and did some good work out there. He’s back here on Monday and we will assess it from our side. Hopefully he will be ready to train on Tuesday.”

OPINION

Both players may not be available for this weekend’s clash against St Johnstone, but these signs look to be very promising indeed. The fact that they could both return to full training next week is brilliant news for Rodgers and the team, as it no doubt means that they will be in contention for their next match. Ntcham has had a bit of a mixed season and he will certainly be gunning to impress Rodgers the next time he plays, especially with the new signings on the books. Boyata has been linked numerous times with a move away from the club but he stayed put in this transfer window, which will definitely be a relief to Rodgers. He needs his centre-backs fit for the title run-in, and Boyata potentially being in contention for the next match will provide a much-needed boost for everyone in the team. Fingers crossed that they do not suffer any setbacks in the meantime.
